Let’s see what this message really means:
<<Well, I was contacted by one Gregory C. Burns:>>
You received a personalized mass mailing letter.
<<Dear Mark ,>>
Please note the space between the name and the comma.
You’d think they would try harder to make it look like
someone actually wrote this to you instead of a mass
reproduction from some mailing list.
<<I just wanted to introduce myself as the new IBM rep for your account.>>
The “new” IBM rep?? What happened to the “old” IBM rep??
And why haven’t you heard from him before this? Does this
mean that the ONLY time he’ll contact you is when he thinks
you're going to buy something?
<<I have attached my electronic business card for your convenience.>>
Of course it’s really for HIS convenience. If it was for
YOUR convenience, he would have shown up in person and given
you one of his actual cards. But, instead, get used to
doing business THIS way since he really doesn’t have time or
interest in getting into a long drawn-out discussion with
you unless you’re ready to place a big order.
<<I look forward to serving your needs both now and in the future.>>
That is, unless you don’t buy something soon.
<< Please feel free to e-mail me or call if you every have any questions or are in need of a quote.>>
Just make sure you’re clear on what you want him to quote.
He doesn’t have time, and cannot bother, to spend too much of
his day with you. He has many other cold calls to make today.
<<Remember, IBM US Direct is your "One Stop Shop" for ALL your PC, Laptop, printer and server needs.>>
That’s right, so you should NEVER need to call HIM. Just call
the 800 number, place your order, and let him get on with his
life.
<<Have a great day!>>
You know he will, if just one out of ten of these mass mailings
gets him any orders.
<<--------------------------------------------------à>
<<I'd say they're getting more serious...>>
I think the real question is, “Are YOU serious?”
