Thanks to all who responded over my udc problem.
I can see where the problem is - while the account has
        READ    :ANY
        WRITE   :AC
        APPEND  :AC
        LOCK    :ANY
        EXECUTE :ANY
The group gen.sys is set up as GU for all.  OK this means that no user is
going to be able to access the UDC if security is on.  I just can't see how
users were able to access it before unless VESOFT SECURITY/3000 has some way
of allowing access to the file.  I will re-read the VESOFT manual again.

I will change access to the group and to the udc to give lock and execute
privilege to the users so I can resecure the udc.
