Sorry for this somewhat off topic post, but the following
pushed all of my "pet peeve" buttons.

I was preparing to register a new domain name with the Internic
this past weekend, and happened to check on 'hp3000.com' to see
if it was registered. It was (with DIS Research Ltd), so I
decided to see if there was a web server up for it, and there was
(so far so good). I poked around the site for a few minutes, and
couldn't find a thing about the HP3000 (BTW, they claim to be a
HP Channel partner on their main page). I felt a little ticked
about this, but heh, its their site.
I don't know what possessed me, but on a whim I looked up
'hp9000.com', and guess what. DIS Research Ltd. again. I
checked at www.hp9000.com, and there was THE SAME HOME PAGE
AGAIN! After a little more poking around, they've registered
and pointed each of the following (plus many more I'm sure) to
the same 'generic' set of pages:
hp2000.com (yeah, what have they done for the 2000 lately!)
hp3000.com
hp9000.com
hpux.com
command.com
dis.com

This sort of 'Internet real estate' grab hacks me off. They
may offer HP3000 related services I don't know them, but if
they aren't even going to say anything related to the domain
names they scarf up, then they should leave those for people
that will!
I'm not looking for anyone to support/defend this position.
I just wanted to vent a little.

BTW, I wasn't looking to register hp3000.com anyway, it's just
something that I have occasionally looked up in the past just
to be curious. The domain I did want was available
<plug> 'sambaix.com' </plug> so I did register it.

Regards,
Michael L Gueterman
