**** IF there is no chance you care when IPROF-97 will
take place next spring, then you can skip the rest of this....

I have been informed by Interex that after recent
discussions and review of options with HP, it has
been decided that all things considered it would be
best NOT to hold IPROF-97 at the HP - Cupertino
site. HP-CSY management concurs with this decision.

Therefore Interex is looking for a suitable hotel again,
reasonably close to HP - Cupertino.... Note that it will
NOT be the LeBaron again; we will go somewhere
where the phones work :-) .... or at least avoid :-(
...... But of course that means hotel will also cost more...

It appears that the South Bay area is going to be very
busy with conferences next spring; meeting space is
tight. Interex has identified one acceptable hotel that
may be able to host IPROF between Sun 23 March
and Friday 28 March. One reason that week may be
open is that Friday 28 March is Good Friday.

Remembering the fiasco that occurred several years
ago when an Interex Management Symposium got
scheduled during Passover (I think it was), I wanted
to get opinions from the members of this list who might
be able to attend IPROF-97: Should we go for the
23-28 March slot if we can get it ?? Note that because
of additional SIGs and events that are expected to be
part of IPROF-97, right now we are planning to run the
conference for at least four full days in 97; maybe 4-1/2
(expected additions are SIGWEB and SIGJAVA and
a Client-Server Roundtable; plus maybe etc.).

If we go for the week of 23-28 March, we would probably
go Mon 24 March through Thurs 27 March if we go for
four days. If we decided to go for 4-1/2 days, then
maybe we could do Sunday afternoon through Thurs;
or (if no objections) Mon through Friday noon. Unless
it is clear that no one would object going through noon
on Good Friday, my feeling right now is that we would
schedule IPROF to conclude ~ 17:00 Thurs 27 March.

Another consideration is that I have had several
contacts from other SIGs / groups that may want to
"bookend" with IPROF; i.e.: meet either just before
or just after the IPROF conference. Meeting before
would probably not be a problem, but anyone that
might want to meet after would have to run through
Easter weekend; figure probably don't want to do
that.

COMMENTS ????..... If anyone has anything to say
on this subject, please post to 3000-L by close of
business Tues 17 Sept... I know that only gives y'all
one day, but if Interex is going to put in a bid for this
slot at this hotel, we need to decide real quick. Keep
in mind that hotel space seems to be at a premium
around Cupertino in the spring of 97, so we are not
going to get a lot of choices...... Speak now or hold
your peace........
