Nick, I am sorry to inform you this time, you are totally wrong. NT is
indeed ready for the big time. There have been many millions of copies of
NT Workstation and NT Server sold. This past year alone over a million
copies on NT Server were sold. NT Workstation is selling so well that
desktop UNIX sales dipped 10% last year and are on their way down even more
this year. A Pentium II workstation with twin 266Mhz or twin 300Mhz is now
becoming the object of desire for graphic artists and other intense
applications. I have seen reports where it is postulated there are more NT
web servers than UNIX web servers. Certainly HP is pushing its NetServers
to do just that. I can show you companies that have their e-mail,
accounting, file storage and office automation exclusively on NT.
Nowadays, that stuff is critical. The list is endless.

As for Bill Gates having a swelled head, well I do not know him personally,
but I have been told on many occasions, that he flies coach and carries his
own luggage. I fail to see what that brings to this discussion however.

Earlier today, I wrote to Alfredo expressing my opinions on the subject,
since he had asked for them. I was not going to post it to the list. I
will send you a copy directly. I certainly do not want to bore the rest of
the list with my ramblings.

Suffice it to say that NT has a place where it is the best platform
currently to do the job and MPE has a place where it is the best platform
to do the job. I do not see where one must forego the other in order for
both to succeed. Cooperation is more constructive.

One day soon, I will show you an NT server. Mine stays up for weeks on
end. I shut it down because I am always fiddling with it, adding hardware
and doing stuff.

Kind regards,

Denys. . .

I think Bill Gates has a swelled head. More to the point I would recommend
that people who want to switch be cautious for two reasons:

1. The obvious, as stated above - NT will not be ready for the big
     time in the foreseeable future.

2. MPE has most of the capability desired. Switching systems to
achieve bebulous goals has proved to be a chimera in many well
documented cases. Conversions are seldom rewarding and almost
always over budget and time lines.

Now if only HP will realize this and market the 3000 hard and
effectively.

Hang in there, guys. You have nothing to fear but fear itself!

WOW, did I say that? (well Ok, so it was borrowed).
