For the past few mornings, I get the following Error message on the
console of my HP 3000, 987sx running MPE/iX 5.5:

System Abort 725 SubSYS 122
Secondary Status: Info= -31, SubSYS=107

The system has been completely unresponsive when this message is on the
console, requiring a hard reboot. As far as I can tell, it happens
after the backup job begins. This is consistently the last job that
runs. It happened a few mornings about a month ago, and we replaced the
tape drive. Everything was good until Monday, Tuesday, and this today.

Once the system is back up and running things are smooth, but it looks
like once the backup job starts, out goes the system, the above message
flashes on the console. Could this have anything to do with the cleaning
cartridge? I don't know how old it is, or if it is effective. How
often should the drive be cleaned? This new drive is only 3 weeks old.
The age of the tapes is unknown, possibly very old.

Any ideas what the Error message means? Where should I start to diagnose
this problem? Any help is appreciated!

PS - Opinions... Is this Hardware (lack of maintainence) or Software
(OS)? Would an upgrade to OS 6.0 possibly help, as this might be in our
future?
