What do you need, ascii sounds like, a telnet server on your HP3000 would be
enough.

Edit your services.net,  and inetd.cnf to be able to use the telnet service.

link services.net.sys to /etc/services in the shell or with newlink in mpe.

link inetdcnf.net.sys to /etc/inetd.conf.

stream jinetd.net.sys

telnet from your linux host from now on.

Watch out: telnet might not support Vplus.

I do not know, if there is a port of the HP vt3k programm for Linux.
