Jay,
I agree with most of your post. Yes, the "blame somebody" mentality that pervades our society has gotten out of hand, and tort reform is sorely needed. The one statement I can't agree with, however, is "Blame the trial lawyer lobby and their bought-and-paid-for Democrat legislators..." This is not a problem with only the Democratic party, nor the Republican party for that matter. I don't even believe it is about buying votes. In my opinion, the problem is that most legislators are lawyers. It seems to me that about half of the time and effort in law schools is devoted to learning the law. The other half is indoctrination -- convincing the students that the current system makes sense and should not change.
