I wish HP could take the credit, but the date functions, such as
INTEGER-OF-DATE and DATE-OF-INTEGER, have been part of ANSI standard
COBOL since about 1989, if I remember correctly.  They were defined in
what COBOL referred to as the "Intrinsic Functions" module (not to be
confused with MPE intrinsics).  

Unfortunately, this is not what the original poster was asking for.  He
wants the difference, not in days, but in years, months, and days.
