You are right about the 1/2 mile Hyatt to Doubletree, but there is an
easy walkway through an office complex or just down Metro drive, then
back toward 101.

$79 per night is great for San Jose, and the Hyatt is good.

Subject: [HP3000-L] Cheap rate at Hyatt for HP 3000 Sol Sym West

Expect everyone who is thinking of going to the West
Coast HP e3000 Solutions Symposium is already aware:

DATES: April 23 - 26, 2003
LOCATION:
DoubleTree Hotel San Jose
2050 Gateway Place
San Jose, CA 95110
408.453.4000
http://www.interex.org/conference/e3k03west/

When I called Doubletree to check best rate, was quoted
$160 for Sol Sym. They had a Government rate that went
for $140 per night... *** BUT ***:

If y'all go to www.hyatt.com (at least as of 30 minutes
ago), you'll find that you can get a room at SJC Hyatt at
1740 North First Street for only $79 per night (at least Thursday and
Friday nights were $79; Wednesday night might have been $99 (not coming
until Thursday; too busy/lazy to go back) ) www.hotels.com was even
three bucks cheaper; I went direct with Hyatt.

Per Mapquest (after accounting for the fact that they put
the "star" for above Hyatt on the wrong side of Metro Drive), the Hyatt
should be right around one-half mile from above Doubletree... If
anybody that gets a car didn't know of the above and ends up staying at
the Hyatt and saving some money in the process: You can pay me back by
giving me a ride to
the Doubletree Friday and Saturday morning... ;-)

Minor caution: IIRC this part of SJ is one of those places where they
figured everybody would have a car; and therefore they didn't bother to
put in a lot of sidewalks...
