If it just overall traffic load you want to measure, you can enable SNMP on
your e3000 and then use a tool such as MRTG
(http://ee-staff.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/mrtg/) to collect the data and
generate traffic graphs.

MRTG is a combination of Perl and C.  IIRC it ran on MPE without requiring any
changes the last time I checked.  Of course you can run it on any machine to
monitor the SNMP stats of any other machine.  I run it under Linux to monitor
bixby.org and jazz traffic.
