SNMP is not directly related to Scope/iX, but it can chew up a bit of cpu.
It's noticeable when it gets polled on our 997-400, though I suspect most of
that is due to it's having to check all 72 of our disc drives as the MIB is
walked.

I've been working with the HPRC on several SNMP issues on the 3000 (and
getting it working better with OpenView); there are apparently new patches
to SNMP (which is a standalone subsystem they tell me, and can be patched
without 'breaking' other modules...we'll see). The latest rev supposedly
fixes several issues (the cpu usage is one they tell me it should help) and
also now allows some local customization (local editing/serving) of MIBS...
which I look forward to trying. Check with the HPRC for status of the
patches for your OS version (as I understand it, the patches aren't
available 'online' yet - they have to be ordered).

system

                what about SNMP ?

I currently have the feeling that SNMP (started with
Scope/iX as far as I
know) under 6.0 probably together with OpC slows down the
system ... and
strange enough: SNMP is exected by a not existing job ....
I'm currently
                investigating this.

If somebody could give some input ... I'll appreciate!

                Best regards, Andreas
