In terms of what John Pitman describes as the "hard stuff", you might want
to look at SunGard Bi-Tech's Transport which we at Transformix
www.xformix.com distribute. It has the batch job processor, the spooler,
the callable sort as well as the MPE Intrinsics, the MPE shell, the
interface with Eloquence and various RDBMS's. RDBMS's supported to date
include Oracle, DB2, Informix and MS SQL Server. We also have an alpha
version for SAPDB (MAXDB) an open source RDBMS. We support the MPE file
system including KSAM and message files. It has been around since 1989 and
is installed in a few hundred sites. Moreover, it runs on HP-UX, AIX,
Solaris, Linux, Windows and the IBM iSeries.
