HP3000 network printing problem

We are using an HP3000 and MPE for our database and jet direct boxes to print
across our WAN.  The problem we are having is, when we print across our WAN,
sometimes we have too much packet loss, due to too much internet traffic or too
many hops and the printer will drop the job.
Has anyone had this same problem and if so what parameters did you change on
the HP3000 or jetdirect boxes to correct the problem.
