Hi Robert ,

Thanks for your assistance. After using the larger file size I was able to alter the file. Issue is fixed and Thanks to everyone for their generous help.

Many Thanks,

Dinesh Babu, S

Your initial comment showed that the required size is around 124,000 records.

When you tried to make the file smaller than the current 40,000 records, MPEX told you that it got an end of file when it tried to copy the 20,001 record to the new file.

You should also know about the non MPEX solutions...the MPEX altfile in principal creates a new file, copies the contents from the old to the new, deletes the old and renames the new one.

Doing the same work yourself:

If you need the current contents of your ksam file, rename the current ksam file first and then fcopy the old file into the new file once you have built it.

Additional issues:

* Normally in the dictionary, you define how big the files need to be. A powerhouse utility QUTIL is available to build the various files that are defined.

(Documented in the powerhouse PDL manual.)

* The KSAMUTIL build command can also be used to create the file. QUTIL programmatically directs KSAMUTIL to do that.

I found the KSAMUTIL reference manual here:

http://www.hpmmsupport.com/MPE%20Manual/5000/B3265090386.10088/11.htm

You want to set the numrec to something more than the expected number of records. (40,000 isn't enough Build command:

         BUILD filereference 1 F ,BINARY

         [;REC=[recsize] [,[blockfactor] [, V ] ] ]

                                              ,ASCII

         [;TEMP]

         [;DEV=device]

         [;CODE=filecode]

         [;DISC=[numrec] [,[numextents] [,initialloc] ] ]

         ;KEYENTITY =filereference 2

                                                          ,DUPLICATE

                                                          ,DUP

         ;KEY=keytype, keylocation, keysize[,[keyblocking] ,RDUPLICATE

                                                          ,RDUP

                                                          ,DUPLICATE

         ;KEY=keytype, keylocation, keysize[,[keyblocking] ,DUP

                                                           ,RDUPLICATE

                                                           ,RDUP

                 [;KEYENTRIES=numentries]

                 [;LABELS=numlabels]

                 [;KEYDEV=device]

Yes Tracy , I'm not able to list the subfile size , as it goes off after the Job runs. Also im not sure on how to increase the KSAM file (JOB-SUMMARY) size as I'm new to this.

Many Thanks,

Dinesh Babu, S

Yes John is right. I just remembered the ALIAS is going back to the JOBS-SUMMARY file which I presume is in your Dictionary.

Also, if this was run online and not in batch you can LISTF and see how big your temporary subfiles were before they disappear.
