It depends upon how speedware is opening the file.

Try the following file equate to force shared access before you
run either the speedware or the cobol program

e.g. FILE test.group.account;shr

This may not work if either application opens the file in such
a way the file equates are ignored.

Greetings,

I am working in a HP3000 machine.

I have a file being accessed by one of the applications. The application is
a speedware application. Guess the application when open, locks this file.

Now when i try to open this file (thru a COBOL program) at the same instant,
i get a file status 90 error. Which says file already open. When the
application is not up and when i execute my cobol program it works very
fine.

Is there any way where i can set this file as sharable between the two. Pls
give me pointers for the same. Both the application and the cobol program
use this file for reading purpose only.

Thanks for your valuabel time and response,
-Jay
