I do not believe that you would want to run a heads-down hard-core mission
critical OLTP application on an portable MPE system. Or maybe you would,
it is up to you. My point was that even with the power of the PC systems
rising at the current rate, you would still not want to do HDHCMCOLTP on a
PC, or on NT. You would run it on MPE. Conversely, when I prepare a Power
Point presentation or do word processing with built in spelling and grammar
checking and WYSIWYG, I do not use an MPE system.

I was trying to point out that you use the proper tool for the proper job.

Kind regards,

Denys. . .

I am still confused as to what thr group wants on a small HP 3000:

1. I can see its use as a development machine for a consultant.
A PC look alike as I previously described would work here - I am not
trying to push our product here (we really don"t have one), but to
show
that this could be a viable approach.
2. Denys mentions "heads down, hard core OLTP". On a portable small
system?? IMHO, this type of application would be rare.

I am not saying that HP should not have a lower cost 3000, just that there
may
be a way of achieving the same ends in a way that HP might buy off on. A
PC with all its capabilities PLUS the ability to develop 3000 software on
it
would be a pretty powerful system. It wouldnot be perfect, but viable at a
reasonable cost.
