Guessing that datasets #1 and #2 you mention are both details this seems
perfectly normal.
I don't see any reason dataset #2 should be populated just because
dataset #1 has something. (The application may care, but that is an
'application' problem.)
The automatic master on the other hand, should be populated with
anything datasets #1 or #2 have.
