A DLT is a DLT, they all come from Quantum. You can connect a DLT4000 or a
DLT7000 to your HP 3000. I am not aware if you can connect a DLT8000, but I
can't see why not. As for a robotic device for DLTs, the only product that
manages robotics on an HP 3000 is Hiback and we support all SCSI-2 command set
compatible devices on the HP 3000, UNIX boxes, Linux, NT and Novell.

I have been contacting various robotic manufacturers to have them update their
compatibility web pages to include MPE. There are about 27 different
manufacturers of DLT robotic devices and so far we have contacted about half of
them, the bigger ones. Some have responded and updated their charts
(StorageTek was the first one,) others have responded but have not updated
their charts. HP falls into the latter category. We support their devices, on
an HP 3000 along with other platforms, but they are not updating their charts,
yet.

So far, I have installed ADIC DLTs with 2 or more drives, StorageTeks with 2
and 4 drives, ATLs with 4 drives, DDS2 SureStores with one drive, HP7215s
with 2 drives, HP 7448s with 4 drives, and some others that I now forget. All
have worked flawlessly, with full random mode control with Hiback.

Kind regards,

Denys. . .

Subject: DLT on 3000

The ADIC DLT I have on my 3000 is close to the end of warranty and I am looking
to get a second one anyway.

Anyone know if the HP Surestore DLT can be used on a 3000. The compatibility
web page for that item does not mention MPE. (I should note that the
compatibility web page indicates it was last updated TUE 01 JAN, 1970 00:00:00
GMT!)

thx
