You're probably stuck. VPLUS assumes you hav an HP-compatible terminal,
and the xterm (emulting a VT100/VT102) is *not* HP-compatible.
Another alternative is to investigate getting a third party Unix-based
HP terminal emulator (with or without NS-VT capabilities).
My old notes show two possibilities:
1) If you are looking for HP3000 emulation from a Unix system, you might
look at a company called Software Licensing Corp in NV. (702) 832
0881. Contact: Paula Gofton
They have IX/92 and IX/Connect, which are HP terminal emulators and NS/VT
transport products for HP-UX, SCO, and Sun. From talking with Paula, the
original roots (way back when) of Reflection and MiniSoft 92 spouted from
a common base. They were also in the deal and did the Unix version.

2) Wildwood Software (?)
Contact: Teodor at (408) 927-6438 ... you can mention my name, if
desired. He wrote and is maintaining/enhancing an HP2392 terminal
emulator for Unix. Sorry I don't have the full set of phone numbers for
his company, or his email.
Finally, Dan Hollis freeware vt3k may be of help as well, although it is
a *transport* mechanism, not an *emulator*.
