Further investigation into Martin's CGI problem revealed that it was only
failing when browsed via Netscape 3; MSIE would work fine.
Within the HTTP protocol spec, there is a concept called "chunking" where
browsers and servers can negotiate the maximum amount of data to be sent in a
single chunk. Older browsers can have problems with chunking, and so can older
servers, including Apache.
Apache 1.2.3 contains some chunking fixes, so if anybody experiences this
problem, you definitely need to make sure you upgrade to the latest Apache.
You should also make sure you are running the latest & greatest version of
your browser.
My environment here is fully up-to-date on both ends, with Apache 1.2.3 and
Netscape Communicator 4.02. CGIs work fine for me.
PS: After one more e-mail session later tonight, I'm off to HPWorld and whatever
intermittent e-mail access I can find within the convention halls....
