So, please make sure I get this right. HP's CEO and the board (including
the past general manager for the highly successful and profitable printing
division) minus one person are in favor of the merger of HP and Compaq in
the hopes of expanding the HP universe, covering everything from the
smallest handheld system to the largest enterprise environment, providing
consulting services, storage solutions, networking solutions and clustering
technology.
On the other hand, the lone dissenter on the board wants to collapse HP
around its printing and imaging business, get out of the PC and downsize
other non-printing areas. This person also wants to immediately fire the
current CEO and probably replace the whole board with himself as the chair
so as to stack the board with people who share is narrowly-focused vision.
If I were to vote, the choice would be clear.
