Where I used to work, for several years we had a pair of series 70s; a 70A
alongside a 70B. Power supplies in the boxes (and minor cosmetic differences)
differentiated the two.
The 70A probably went through 6 power supplies in a couple years, and a couple
periods where it was completely unstable (and crashed every few hours) due to
what turned out to be power problems, and ended up having much of it's chasis
and backplane replaced, after HP brought out teams of some of their best CEs
who pored over it, monitored it, and even installed some "bug catching" hard-
ware in attempts to isolate where the problems were coming from.
A bit farther back in history, a Series II had such severe power supply
problems that we regularly had HP leaving power monitoring equipment to try
and track down the problems. Somewhere about the time we upgraded it to a
Series III, things settled down.
I've yet to hear of a power supply problem in any 9x7 or later boxes though.
Those lil buggers just keep on running.
