I am really wondering what all the *whining* is all about.

Are we not computing professionals?

Are we not supposed to be aware that vendors cancel systems
and that over time things come and things go?

Are we not supposed to be prepared for the eventuality that
our vendor of choice might not be supporting our system?

HP owes you NOTHING beyond value for the system(s) you
purchased. You pay them money, they deliver a system and
you use that system. When that system is used-up you buy
another system. If you decide the system isn't working for
you then you maybe buy another system from someone else.
If they decide not to make the system anymore then you
get another system.

Be glad they gave you 5 years notice.

There are countless stories of vendors who have gone out of
business with little or NO notice.

There are countless stories of vendors who have cancelled
entire computing platforms with < 5 years notice.

I remember listening to a long-time 3000 ISV at an ISV show
in Dallas a few years back give a presentation. In his presentation
he said the following:

* We were always mad at HP for not supporting the 3000 more.
* We always wanted HP to do more for the 3000.
* We always expected HP to solve our problems with declining sales
  of 3000 systems.

* Then we realized HP wasn't in business to make US money. They
  were in business to make themselves money.
* Then we realized it was OUR responsibility to chart our course
  and to be accountable for how WE used the 3000.
* Then we stopped waiting for HP to give us a free hand-out and
  set out to create something we could SELL and be self sufficient.

So, I say to all of you who are demanding HP solve your
problems:

YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME WAITING...
