How exactly would you contruct this in an example ?

You could use "PAUSE xx" inside a continual loop (where you would
also have the FTP code), but I'm not sure that I know of a more
sophisticated way in which you could have the routine wake up only
when the files exist and sleep if they do not, if that's where your
headed.

Subject: [HP3000-L] FTP background process
Does anyone know of a way to have a background process job that would run
FTP.ARPA and use a sleep/wake type of routine ? Ideally, the job would
either put or get data from a given ftp site but if files are not
present - then it would 'sleep' for a specified time and continue trying.
