Tracy,

Last year at HPW in Atlanta, this question was raised, by me, as a part of
a D/R issue
on the 'Customer Needs' panel moderated by Paul Edwards.  The panel
consisted
 of several notable members of the 3000-L and HP.  HP admitted that, at
that point in
time, the assignment of HPSUSAN, via ss_config, was still a back burner
issue and
would be addressed later.  No definition of later was given.
