As someone who grew up in the South, I know (and probably you do too) that
"states rights" is merely a code phrase for a Southerner's claim to bigotry,
racism, segregation, prejudice, ignorance and intolerance.

-----------------

This is a misleading statement. The war between the states solidified the
southerners attitude, because he perceived Washington was now shoving
it's ideas down his throat. The gradual trend in the south of opposition
to slavery stopped because of the perception in the south of being 'pushed
around'. This is why the KKK started gaining popularity.

-----------------

"Put God back in our classroom and get the niggers out!"

-----------------

Of course, Wirt, you are going to play the 'racist' card, that was
predictable. The fact is though, this indicated a trend of Federalizing
the schools, and taking local control away. Now we have the schools
we have today. Worked well, don't you think? Was it worth the price?

-----------------

I certainly hope that no Democrat believes in "states rights."

-----------------

The alternative is 'Federalization' which is the inexorable trend
which is destroying us as a republic.
