Several readers notified me today that their HP3000-L mail has been
rejected by their mailers that participate in the ORBS and/or IMRSS spam
black-listing services because raven.utc.edu became 'listed' on
Saturday as allowing mail relaying. Assuming your mailer isn't bouncing
this message, let me explain, and perhaps you can forward
the info on to those that are affected.

Raven was 'black-listed' after being actively probed by the services
above, as it does permit mail relaying; however, it does authenticate
mail origins by IP. This makes it only 'halfway' acceptable to the
growing trend to prevent relaying altogether.

I have downloaded the most recent version of LSMTP, the mailer used by
Raven, but as of close of business today we do not yet have our
license key to activate it. I expect to complete the update tomorrow
(Tuesday), although it may take additional time for ORBS/IMRSS to remove
us from their lists.

To save a separate post, let me go ahead and mention another near-term
project. The new raven is here! We plan to migrate over to it in the
coming weeks and will also be updating to Listserv rev 1.8d. Most
notable in this release is a complete web interface where you can
read, post, search, subscribe, set options, etc for your subscription.
All these features with nearly 3x the CPU and disk storage of the
current server. And coming in late May, UTC is adding 2 dedicated T1
lines of internet bandwidth.

Stay tuned for future updates :-)
