For my taste, I'd err on the side of caution and do an INSTALL. It's
safe :)  and *supported*.

Suspicious of you, Stan? ... ;)

<plug>
The newest version of De-Frag/X has an "ALTFILE" command that can remove
the PROTECTED flag from those files. Of course, we only allow an SM user
to do this, and even then ask for confirmation ... but, we decided to allow
it, because of the real need some people have for this operation. Yes, you
could
royally foul up your system (e.g., if you unprotect & purge certain files
in PUB.SYS) ... so be careful!
</plug>

(For the suspicious, Jeff didn't plant the question for me to answer...I
happened
to see it and say, gee...this would be easy to add to De-Frag/X, so...I did.)
