The printer / scanner / fax / etc part of the business represents somewhere around 75%, if we are to believe some sources, and it is true that HP may not have an effective force to negotiate problems.

I make every effort to obtain HP equipment and parts through a third party, whether that be Office Max, Office Depot, CompuCare, etc.

These are not always the paragons of service and reliability, and often there are issues from the time the order is taken, to the shipping, down to the maintenance, but often, because you can deal with people locally, there is sometimes a better chance to make headway on problem options.

Of more concern is the continuing existence of the HP e3000 and MPE i/X.

The people at the CSY are VERY good at their jobs and the HP e3000 arena has exceptionally excellent people working in HP for the customer.

Praise can mount for weeks on end for the work they do and the help they give.

We should hope that the current round of layoffs of 6,000 people do not take the best and brightest of these people.

HP has already shot themselves in the foot--and us too--in the HP3000 arena, and one day, the shot may be somewhat higher and perhaps not just more painful, but fatal.

<snip>

1. Ordered an Officejet 630 direct from HP (on line).
2. After two years had problems.
3. Called HP parts (number from users' manual)
3. Ordered parts after some discussion (HP person on the other end of the line was not knowledgeable).
4.  Got wrong parts.
5. called again - no help.
6. will take 630 to a repair shop.

Regards,

Nick D.

P. S. HP was at least kind enough to give me a credit for the wrong
parts.
