 Fortunately both of these DTEs used the 25 Pin D connectors. Makes it
easier to connect. The simple answer is you just need a straight through
cable. For direct connect the 3000 only cares about pins 2, 3 and 7. So
you should be able to build a cable with pins 2 3 and 7 and be up and
running.

 I'm not clear on which flavor of terminal interface Donna's going to hook
up to but I should point out that the self test on some of the newer
DTC family (DTC 16 and maybe the 72) can get very upset if you tie some
of the modem signals together. So if you're connecting to a DTC and
building your own cable for direct connect, I'd recommend using only the
pins you need (2,3,7).

: Since no one seemed to actually provide the answer try:

:         pin 2 --> pin 3
:         pin 3 --> pin 2
:         pin 7 --> pin 7

: This is for a direct connect. The one thing I can't remember is whether
: the pin2/3 swap is necessary on these devices. This will not support
: a modem connection, but will support DTCs and older ATPs and ADCCs.

: BTW, this was by memory, and I expect Bruce or Ross to correct what
: might be wrong.

 Sorry, while I'm not Bruce or Ross, I'll correct you. A previous poster,
Mel Rees (?), had it. The 3000 has always been a DCE (sort of). So for
direct connects you need to use a straight through cable (no swapping pins
2 and 3). For modems... you have to swap pins 2 and 3.... (as well as a
whole bunch of other stuff).

 Hope this helps.

 Now from a disclaimer point of view, I've been out of TIO support for 3
years now, so I'm not up on the latest and greatest information regarding
our terminal products. I'd provide HP cable part numbers, but my datacomm
handbook is from '89 and I'm not certain the numbers are good any longer.

 The Response Centers and your CE can usually provide this type of
information. If not, there's lots of good help here. I'd just be remiss in
my professional commitments if I didn't try to steer you into the support
channels that HP has available.

Best of luck,
cas
