Thanks for all the input on my problem.  I have a little extra information
however.  To recap, the error was
 
 TURBOIMAGE ERROR AT $0000ddb4; RETURN STATUS = -1
 DBDELETE, MODE 1, ON MAIL-D OF FYIDB.PUB.SMGA
 MPE FILE ERROR 0 RETURNED BY FOPEN ON DATA SET #6
 
Data set 6 is a manual master whose key is a path to MAIL-D,  I can go into
QUERY and delete records in MAIL-D all day long.  I used DBGENRL to repack the
detail set, and changed capacities on the master.  The dates on the files
look good, but I am still getting the same problem from my program.  The
database only has none to 3 accessors, and the capabilities are good.
 
Any more ideas?
