Jim,

DISC has been very pleased with the MultiView package (613)-255-5050 and
some of our customers use Mitchel Humphrey and say very nice things about
it. Both are good general accounting packages and not tied to a
particular industry.

Putting my old, dusty CPA green eye shade on for a second, your cost of
conversion and training to a new accounting system is likely to exceed
the $30,000 re-license fee unless your new vendor has a way to
automatically convert your files and the system operates in a similar
fashion.

Speaking from a vendor perspective, we try to base upgrade costs on
increased value usage. Per your note, it is hard to see the incremental
value. So I hope you can convince your vendor that it is in yours and
their best interest that you work out a more reasonable exchange of value
for your CPU swap. Good luck.

Gentle Listers:

We are in the process of moving from a 948 to a 918. I just found out
that our current accounting software vendor wants more than $30,000US
to re-license the software on the 918. I should have checked it out
earlier, but I figured since the 918 was two software tiers below the
948, the software would be transferable at little or no cost. Silly me!
Now, I'm all for vendors making a profit (heck, we make a profit on the
stuff we sell), but the term "gouging" comes to mind here. :-(

Anyway, does anyone know of an accounting package for the HP3000 (AR, AP,
and GL) that costs close to the same amount of money?

Please note that I am not interested in restarting the "old" tiered
software pricing thread (which has been debated ad nauseum). This is
not a new purchase, merely the moving of software from one machine to
another. So, if you want to comment about my "gouging" term above, feel
free to do so, but I am really interested in locating a vendor for some
accounting software, not debating the merits of software license fees.
