Hi Chris,

  From NMMGR:

    Local HP3000 Node Name: HP979.LAMBOURNE.PRODUCTIONS
    Local Domain Name: HP979.WINDSONG-SERVICES.CO.UK

  From HOSTS.NET.SYS:

    192.171.1.43 hp979 HP979.LAMBOURNE.PRODUCTIONS HP979
hp979.lambourne.productions

  From RESLVCNF.NET.SYS:

    domain hp979.windsong-services.co.uk

  From SHOWVAR HPSYS@:

    HPSYSNAME = HP979

With the above config an 'smbclient "-L !HPSYSNAME"' lists all the shares.
Only problem is that NetMail needs to access our ISP's DNS to resolve email
addresses.
To do this I need to add the following entry to RESLVCNF.NET.SYS:

  nameserver <gateway ip address>

If an 'smbclient "-L !HPSYSNAME"' is done after the nameserver entry is
added then we get:

  manager.sys% /usr/local/samba/bin/smbclient "-L !HPSYSNAME"
  Added interface ip=192.171.1.43 bcast=192.171.1.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
  Session request failed (0,0) with myname=HP979 destname=HP979
  Unspecified error 0x0
Your server software is being unfriendly

So, I added the following nameserver entry to RESLVCNF.NET.SYS:

  nameserver 192.171.1.43

Doing another 'smbclient "-L !HPSYSNAME"' gave me the same results as above.

NetMail will works as long as the first nameserver entry is there (it can
resolve the email addresses) BUT Samba is dead. Why??

regards,

NetMail/3000 and Samba don't have any compatibility problems... Though both
do utilize DNS resolution if enabled. Typos in your reslvcnf.net.sys file
(or unresponsive DNS servers referenced there) can cause serious performance
problems for either though.

What exactly is the problem?

                Importance: High

                Hi fellow listers,

Please excuse the flagging of the missive as high
importance. You may not
                think it is but it's caused me a lot of grief :{

Have got a problem with NetMail/3000 and Samba/iX living on
the same box (an
HP979/200 running 6.5). The problem looks as if it's in the
RESLVCNF file.
Anybody know where I can get any documentation on this file?

                regards,
