Separation of Church and State - nowadays confused (intentionally) with
separation of religion and government -

Originally did not mean that government must be devoid of all things
religious (obviously); only meant that the Church (any church) should not
be involved in governmental affairs, and vice-versa. The founders wanted to
prevent having a state church situation such as they had left behind. God
and Christianity are an integral part of the foundiation and character of
the USA, and I make no apology to those who want to kick religion out of
government.

Church and religion are definitely not the same thing.
