I have not had time to research what is going on, but I can tell you what I
did to make it work for me. I noticed that the JSMB job stream with the 6.0
MPE/iX distribution contained the key xeq line:
xeq smbd.samba.sys "-D -p 139"
whereas the pre-MPE/iX 6.0 version I used looked like this:
xeq smbd.samba.sys -D
I simply went back to my old job stream and all is well. Some day I'll try
to figure out what "-p 139" is supposed to do. Note that I also run things
from manager.sys:
!job smbmon,manager.sys;hipri;pri=cs;outclass=lp,1,1
!comment smb monitor job v0.7
!comment lars appel 04-may-97
!setvar tz,"pst8pdt"
!if bound(tz) then
! xeq smbd.samba.sys -D
!else
! tellop Proper TZ recommended for Samba
!endif

Subject: Samba/iX and MPE 6.0
A long time ago I downloaded a version of Samba to the 3000 and managed to
get it working under MPE 5.5. Now that I've upgraded to MPE 6 with Samba
included, I can't get it to run.
Yesterday, with very little effort, I managed to get it up and running
except that it would only connect as guest. None of the services requiring
passwords would work. I spent some time looking over the config file and
trying to view the man pages before I gave up.
Today, for no apparent reason, it doesn't work at all.
When I stream the JSMB & JNMB jobs, they log on, start then daemons, which
go into a WAIT state for about a minute and then terminate with no message.
I can't think of anything that's changed since yesterday.
Does anybody have any idea what I'm doing wrong?
