Well, actually I was assuming that the SUTDOWN command would simply "pause"
during the DELAY time, so you could simply <BREAK> the command if you want
to cancel it.
The whole DELAY/WARN/WAIT thing is really just bells and whistles that are
there because the Unix shutdown command provides the same kind of options.
The same functionality could easily be provided as a CI command file on MPE,
thus simplifying the implementation process for HP (I still want the ;EXIT
option though dammit!), and in fact on Unix that's exactly how these options
are provided, so for simplicity I would revise my proposal to include only
the most critical options, making the syntax:
SYNTAX
SHUTDOWN {SYSTEM | <entityname>}
[;HALT]
[;RESTART]
[;EXIT]
and for extra credit:
[;DUMP]
[;NODUMP]
to control whether MMSAVE gets invoked. These last two options would be
mutually exclusive with the ;EXIT option.
It would be nice to be able to have an additional option to ;EXIT which
would cause an exit to the ISL> prompt followed by the invocation of the
AUTOBOOT file, allowing a fast automated reboot without operator
intervention. I haven't figured out if it's possible to pass an initial
command to ISL on exit though, so this might not be easy/possible.
