If you want to see England and meet true English people get out of London.
If you want to head west try these.
Bristol - an absolutely gorgeous university town that is NOT chock full of
tourists. Put your walking shoes on (it is very hilly) and visit the shops. A
great way to meet people in England is to WALK, visit the pubs between 11
and 2 and eat in small cafes.
Other places to visit in that general area are Cheddar Gorge, Bath and Stone
Henge. While Cheddar Gorge and Stone Henge are frequented by tourists,
they are both worth the visit and they are frequented by a lot of European
and even English tourists. Some of the most fun people we have met are
English, Scottish and Irish tourists (especially in the pubs.) There are some
lovely shops in Cheddar Gorge. This is the original home of cheddar cheese
(and you thought it came from Wisconsin). I did not run into one single
American at Cheddar Gorge.
Also be aware that a lot of things might be closed on Sunday so check before
you head out of town.
Have a great visit!
