Okay, I understand. But why? That is:
why do I need a CSTL tape when every file is saved on a backup tape
and the system is up and running?

Or to put it another way - what is stored onto a CSLT tape that
is so critical to the running of the system?

Can we create another CSLT tape from the system
with the bad hard drive?

If we misplace a CSLT tape can we use one from another (identically
configured) system.

So what would we do if the tape was bad and we couldn't find another one?
I'm sure we wouldn't throw the system away.

For a moment we couldn't find the tape so I was asking the question.
If we ever run into a case like this I don't have an solution.

More precisely you need your CSLT tape, which is the finished product
after an installation/upgrade/patch process. You will have to reload
at least the system volume set, adding LDEV 2 with VOLUTIL prior to
doing the actual restore.
