Look in the block of fine print (Really!) in the printed `label' that
is around the tape. It has the details in there. BTW, it talks of
`passes'. This is not a mount or use, it is a full or partial run of
the tape. There can be of the order of 50ish passes to use the full
capacity of the tape.
Also, the DLTs have a drive only block that stores the tape mark
directory and the calibration parameters for the tape. This is
maintained by the drive u-code and enables the drive to fast select
the correct track for the number of files you want to skip. I think it
also stores the block count at each end as well.
This is DLT, I don't know the details of the SDLTs.
