I see the smiley, but have to report I actually did just that,
installed 1.1 times available memory!

I figured out how much to order to bring the
system to full capacity (3.75gb)and then ordered it for our
HP979, and some to bring our HP989 to 3.75gb as well.

HP came and installed it all in the 979, which
was quite happy just using 3.75gb, but it did report
4.75gb available at boot!

Guess that is a bit more the 1.1 times available.

Note that with the cost of a service call to install
memory, it might make sense to install more than
you need, perhaps in preparation for going to 6.5
in the near future.

I'd say [RAM Capacity of Box] * 1.1!
