As a couple of kind soles have already privately pointed out ...
there's a "Maximum users per log process" limit ...
Now that I know the answer, my original question does seem pretty
funny(!) ... the subject should read "HUMOUR" ... :))
For the record, our default value for "max # of users per logging
process" is 128, it's configured in SYSGEN, and requires a START
NORECOVERY
to change it.
Ah, well. Live and learn to actually read error messages !
