You do not specify why the users are having a delay in processing, is it
from competing with batch jobs or just the number of users requesting
service? Could it be from your development team running tests that are
sapping resources for your production environment? Most probably it is a
combination of these things and a second machine would help eliminate the
delays.

I might suggest that you procure a system with a faster processor and use it
for your production system and move your current system to the role of
development/test. This will give you more processing power for production
and as an added benefit help with the auditors when development and
production are no longer on the same system. We had this environment when I
worked with Amisys and it worked very well.

Hope this helps

Subject: [HP3000-L] Cost Benefit Analysis for acquiring a 2nd HP3000
machine

Hi everyone,

I have been tasked with preparing a Cost Benefit Analysis showing the
pros and cons of acquiring a 2nd HP3000 MPE machine for our environment. We
are currently running a Series 969-200 and our production window is
shrinking causing our online users to experience delays in processing. We
are also unable to maintain a proper test environment due to all available
space being allocated to our production volumeset.

I know there are any people and companies out there who can assist in a
situation like this and I would be interested in seeing examples of Cost
Benefit analysis documents used to promote the acquisition of an additional
HP3000 machine. We currently use AMISYS v10, Suprtool, Omnidex, Cognos
Powerhouse, and HP Cobol to support our environment. My CEO is willing to
make the expenditure provided I can provide him with the benefits of having
a Beta machine (as I call it) for our environment.

Your assistance is very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Mr. Blanchard L. Carter
