FWIW I have not gotten spam of any sort, ever at this address.

Which prompts me to ask; can a firewall protect from this sort of nonsense?

I didn't think so but I'm no networking expert. If it isn't the firewall then perhaps
we have some incredibly spiffy software that somehow knows what is and is
not spam. And if it's not that then maybe the 3000-L is not the crop from which
email addresses are being harvested since asside from a couple of techical
newletters that's all I use this particular email address for.
