Simplicity and reliability and certainly two extraordinarily good reasons.
But the two most important reasons for choosing and keeping the HP3000 that I
quote are its traditional stability (meaning its long-term forward
compatability and thus enormous investment protection) and its maturity (you
can design systems that aren't on the bleeding edge of technology, which is
an attribute that is excellent for resumes but simply terrible for business
productivities).

I am, in my particular circumstances, not only the CIO, but also the CEO, the
customer complaint department, support, and very occasionally the janitorial
staff (when I can't talk someone else into doing it). Even so -- and
particularly because of this situation -- all I want out of the equipment
that surrounds me is absolute reliability and stability, at the best possible
performance/cost ratio available. In general, that's all that I find that the
people that I speak to every day want to.
