I think there are two markets that CSY need to win business in and where
we all might help. 1) The Installed base and 2) New business.

1) With the new "A" and "N" class system announcements they have a good
chance to upgrade many of the old 9x7 M/C's. And looking at the hardware
and software prices there must be many sites that could see a
significant boost in processing power, unlimited user licensing and a
pay back in a couple of years. There are a couple of things that I think
the 3K vendor community could do to assist, firstly spread the word
about the new servers and the software advances on 7.0, secondly make
sure that we don't spoil the upgrade path for someone by imposing large
and unwarranted upgrade fees. Not that that's an issue with Adager :-)

2) New business. This one is far more difficult for them, new boxes are
only going to be sold on the back of industry leading solutions, so it
is really only the solution vendors who can advertise. I think the word
from CSY a year ago was that they would never be allowed to advertise
how good the 3k is, as it would be a confusing message for customers to
see one part of HP saying how good their 9000 servers were, and another
part saying that the 3000 was better?

So the question is how can we advertise how good the 3000 is and the
applications that run on it, and how can we facilitate the sale of new
HP3000's. In our small way via the ScreenJet GUI product we have tried
to reduce some of the cost barriers by supplying worldwide a free
HP700/92 emulator and FTP client. Could perhaps the 3K Vendor community
look at bundling tools/applications on NEW business sales at next to no
cost for the first two years or something. After all its not lost
revenue if the M/C sale wouldn't have happened.
