One reason, in regards to 'best practices' is to have a session logged
on with a
temporary file built to reserve enough sectors of disc space for the
system to
boot in case a program on the system runs crazy using file space or
spool file
space. If your system runs out of system volume set disc space you may
have
trouble rebooting the box.

Put in a logon udc for your operator.sys or user of choice:

BUILD TAKESPAC;DISC=20000,1,1;DEV=1;TEMP

... so the user can log on and reserve the disc space on ldev 1, leaving
a bare
minimum of space required to boot.

Sounds like a good reason to me.
