So, how does an "energy efficient operating system" actually save money?

Does it run in fewer CPU cycles, generating less heat?

Does it consume less disk space saving the energy to make bigger disk drives?

Does it lock up more often, reducing the amount of useful (hence total) work done by the PC?

It runs so slow that you go back to pencil, paper, and brain cycles?

Or maybe it just turns components off sooner?

I think Jeff Kell's answer has some merit.

Bruce.

"As organizations are determining when they should upgrade, the
potential for significant total-cost-of-ownership (TCO) savings is a
compelling reason for deploying Windows Vista. Energy costs are part of
TCO for IT departments. With concerns about global warming, energy
shortages, and potential oil crises, an energy-efficient operating
system is one way in which Microsoft demonstrates that it is remembering
environmental factors as it delivers the next operating system."

I guess I am not concerned about oil shortage, global warming or other
hoaxes.

I love humor.
