Hi...
We are using OS/2 TCP/IP with Reflection to connect to HP3K. After one
hour of inactivity, the users enters a carrige return at the workstation
and the HP replies with a reset. Within NMMGR there are two settings.
"Connection assurance interval" default value 600 seconds. Also there is a
"Maximum connection assurance retransmissions" default value 4 seconds.
What do these do? (I have the NMMGR manual, but in simpler terms)
a> Keep the session alive OR
b> Abort the session due to lack of user activity
I'm aguing with my Network person, that the HP is sending out packets to
the workstation making sure that Reflection is still running on the
workstation. The Network guy says, these timers are for inactivity at the
workstation. We put a sniffer on the workstation, the HP never sent a
"assurance" packet.... or so he says. I want to put the sniffer on the
HP3K, but he's arguing with me that it's a waste of time. I think the HP3K
is sending out "keep alive" packets that the workstation is not receiving.
What are you thoughts?
Is it a "keep alive" or an "inactivity" setting.
Thanks!
Juan
