Jim Phillips asks:
>Can you run it the other way?

I haven't tried it, but according to the documentation at the referenced web
site, the answer is "yes and no". The same daemon that attempts to do
continuous time synchronization also acts as a time server. Since the
full-time daemon has problems as previously stated, it isn't reliable. In
case you haven't seen the problem description at bixby.org, the issue is
that this implementation of XNTP uses SETCLOCK to adjust the time gradually.
The SETCLOCK algorithm evidently over-corrects, causing it to overshoot
slightly while correcting the time. This causes the XNTP program to
constantly adjust the time back and forth, which for some reason eventually
causes it to fail. Since the problem is in the SETCLOCK code, Mark must
wait for HP to fix it. An SR has been submitted.

Mark, if you are listening I have a suggestion. How about setting a
threshold for the variance, say a tenth of a second, below which XNTP either
does a "NOW" correction, or doesn't attempt a correction at all?

Which reminds me:

Can you run it the other way? That is, can I set my HP3000 up to be an NTP
server and have PC's query it for the "correct" time?
